Saint Jean de Losne to Petit Ouges

Today was a canal and lock day. We headed along the Canal de Bourgogne which is a very straight canal with lots of locks. We had lots of opportunities to watch how the locks operate. Also we could get off the barge and walk ahead, as our walking pace was faster. The walking gave us an appitite for a "light" lunch - poached egg on toast with a Conte cheese sauce, roast lamb with vegetables and poached pears with rhubarb. After lunch we walked over to the Chateau de Longecourt. The Count himself is the one that gave us the tour. It has been his life's work to preserve the Chateau, he also rents rooms, and it's a fantastic place.
Most of us did not enjoy the walk to catch the boat up as much as we did the walk in the morning! It was very hot, and as this part of the canal is very straight you couldn't tell how far it was. Each lock we came to we thought - "this must be the one". It was almost 7 km, but seemed further. The beer when we got back tasted very good! And we finally tried out the hot tub (with a glass of cremeux of course!)
