Chalon to Saint Jean de Losne

Today was a more relaxing day, as we were going along the river. This meant less locks (but larger ones)and we were travelling at a higher speed. Also no canal paths, so we stayed on-board. At about 10am there was quite a rain storm, with a bit of thunder and lightening thrown in. People took the opportunity to read, go online, chat or play cards. We also had the chance to visit Pascal's tiny kitchen, amazing the meals he makes in such a small space!
Lunch on board today - escargot vol au vent, then slow cooked beef with potatoes and vegetables. Our cheese course, a Brillat Savaian from Burgundy, then cheese cake with black current. By the time we finish lunch the sun is out, and it's hot again.A chance to enjoy a little deck time.
Mid afternoon we arrive in the busy little port of Saint Jean de Losne. We raft up to a bike and barge boat (not nearly as nice as the Daniele) and beside a very exclusive 5 cabin barge.
Sarah took us for a little walk around town. It's very small, so not much to see. A beautiful church, and a canal museum. Also some interesting public buildings. The harbour area is bigger than the town.
Tonight we walked along the river to have dinner at a beautiful guest house on the edge of town. Catherine the owner gave us some local kir, wine and snacks to start in her lovely garden with several cats frisking around. We then had a buffet dinner sitting out on the patio, Salad, tomatoes, flan, quiche, cold chicken, followed by cheese then dessert. And of course wine. Catherine the owner and Bibi the server were both a little eccentric, but charming. 25 euro cost for dinner. A moonlit walk back to the boat.
